Today, one in three people online is under 18, but the original design of most digital technologies did not anticipate the use of those technologies by children. Therefore, there is an urgent need to address the vulnerabilities and evolving capacities associated with children and their experiences online. This community is helping organizations design and develop digital services that are age-appropriate and deliver on the cultural and legal privileges they are entitled to in digital environments.
The focus of human centric design and the incorporation of the need to protect children online have resulted in the development of standards and other activities to support this growing demand. Age appropriate design and children's data governance is of interest to all: governments and policymakers; international institutions and civil society organizations; business and tech sector especially digital service providers; parents, teachers, and children.
