IEEE CertifAIEd™
The Mark of AI Ethics
IEEE CertifAIEdTM is a certification program for assessing ethics of Autonomous Intelligent Systems (AIS) to help protect, differentiate, and grow product adoption. The resulting certificate and mark demonstrates the organization’s effort to deliver a solution with a more trustworthy AIS experience to their users.
Through certification guidance, assessment and independent verification, IEEE CertifAIEd offers the ability to scale responsible innovation implementations, thereby helping to increase the quality of AIS, the associated trust with key stakeholders, and realizing associated benefits.
Certification Guidance, Assessment
IEEE Authorized Assessors help guide organizations through a thorough review and examination of their AIS to determine its ethical risk and reward profile and conformance with relevant ethical criteria.
Independent Review and Verification
After an IEEE Authorized Certifier performs an independent review and verification of the successful assessment, a certificate, and mark are granted.

The IEEE CertifAIEd Mark
The IEEE CertifAIEd Mark helps organizations demonstrate that they are addressing transparency, accountability, algorithmic bias, and privacy aspects, needed to build trust in their AIS. The mark:
Whatever an organization’s role in the development and delivery of AIS, it stands to gain from the responsible innovation-driven, human-centric, independent IEEE CertifAIEd assessment, certification, and mark.
The following facets of ethical responsibility are applied:
IEEE CertifAIEd currently includes four ethical criteria applied against an organization’s AIS using the IEEE CertifAIEd methodology. We introduce the criteria in the form of Ontological Specifications for Ethical Privacy, Algorithmic Bias, Transparency, and Accountability.
We invite you to fill out the form to receive these specifications.
Transparency
Transparency criteria relate to values embedded in a system design, and the openness and disclosure of choices made for development and operation.
Accountability
Accountability criteria recognize that the system/service autonomy and learning capacities are the results of algorithms and computational processes designed by humans and
organizations that remain responsible for their outcomes.
Algorithmic Bias
Algorithmic bias criteria relate to the prevention of systematic errors and repeatable undesirable behaviors that
create unfair outcomes.
Privacy
Privacy criteria are aimed at
respecting the private sphere of life and public identity of an
individual, group, or community, upholding dignity.
IEEE CertifAIEd Ecosystem Benefits
IEEE CertifAIEd offers trainers in-depth knowledge about the Criteria and Methodology, and the ability to address a skills gap in AI Ethics certification.
IEEE CertifAIEd assessor certification attests to the expertise and credentials for delivering AI Ethics assessment, that flexibly integrates into the assessors’ own services.
IEEE CertifAIEd enables certifiers to independently corroborate an organization’s assessment of its AIS under the given CertifAIEd criteria using a detailed process that can complement their own offering.
IEEE CertifAIEd in Practice
Several organizations have partnered with IEEE to pilot IEEE CertifAIEd to apply the criteria in real-world settings. Learn how your organization can create profiles or use cases focused on an industry vertical.
