Call for Submissions Has Closed

We received many great entries for this inaugural competition. If you would like to participate in the live competition event, hear the finalists, and cast your vote, register for the free live event. All registrants will be notified when we open the call for submissions for the next competition hosted by the IEEE SA Telehealth Program.

Criteria Guidelines for Submissions

Submissions may demonstrate some of or all the following criteria:
  • Privacy and security: Appropriate safeguards have been designed to provide for end-to-end data security amongst parties that protect the privacy of the patient’s data and identity.
  • Adaptability and flexibility: User-centered design that enables comfort with the use of the technology to assist with clinical care.
  • Extensibility: Designed in such a way that can adapt to the changes in technologies the long term and including integrated other design principles and/or services. 
  • Scalability: The ability cross over into new and established markets, impact use and adoption.
  • Inclusivity, accessibility, and feasibility for ALL patients: The ability to create equity through the power of technology and innovation. Applications may include solutions for those with disabilities, the unconnected, healthcare disparity, etc.
  • Interoperability: The ability to effectively exchange and use information from the source (patient) to other points in the patient data journey.
  • Compliance: Indicate which regulatory guidelines (i.e., US HIPAA, EU GDPR, etc.) have been followed in the development of the solution.
  • Stage of the solution: Indicate if the solution is a proof-of-concept (POC), in pilot, or in commercial use.
  • Publication: Indicate if the solution has been published in an academic or industry publication or research.
  • Research: Market research or domain landscape assessment for the development and use of the product.
  • Patents disclosure: Indicate if any patents have been obtained for this solution.
  • Recency: The solution must have been written, developed and/or released after January 2017.

Who Can Compete?

  • This is a global competition. Competitors welcomed from around the globe.
  • Direct involvement with technology development (software, hardware, storage, connectivity, systems) supporting RPM
  • Technology start-up with a prototype or full operational solution
  • Teams from commercial entities of any size
  • Students with a Proof-of-Concept Solution

Selection of Winners & Awards

Finalists will have the opportunity to pitch their solution to the audience and the competition advisory members on 08 February 2022. The audience will have the opportunity to participate in real-time voting to select the winners.

There will be a total of four (4) winners:

  • Two (2) First Place Winners
    • One (1) individual/student(s)
    • One (1) company
  • One (1) Second Place Winner
  • One (1) Third Place Winner

First Place Individual/Student(s)
  • Participation in a face-to-face and/or virtual panel at an IEEE SA-hosted workshop in 2022
  • Inclusion in an IEEE SA BeyondStandards #IEEEHLS blog post about all winning solutions
  • Invitation to participate as advisors in future IEEE SA telehealth competitions
  • Open demo at an IEEE SA-hosted workshop in 2022
  • Business development/market strategy mentorship with an established industry organization
  • Enrollment into a pilot mentorship program to test the solution in a real-world environment (supported and organized by the IEEE Humanitarian Action Committee)
First Place Company
  • Participation in a face-to-face and/or virtual panel at an IEEE SA-hosted workshop in 2022
  • Inclusion in an IEEE SA BeyondStandards #IEEEHLS blog post about all winning solutions
  • Invitation to participate as advisors in future IEEE SA telehealth competitions
  • Open demo at an IEEE SA-hosted workshop in 2022
  • Business development/market strategy mentorship with an established industry organization

Second & Third Place
  • Participation in a face-to-face and/or virtual panel at an IEEE SA-hosted workshop in 2022

  • Invitation to participate as advisors in future IEEE SA telehealth competitions
All finalists will receive an IEEE Special Mention Competition Certificate.
