MIND THE GAPS: ARE WE READY FOR MIXED TRAFFIC WITH ROBOTAXIS?
4 September 2024
09:30-11:00 ET | 15:30-17:00 CET
Are fully autonomous vehicles on public roads feasible? And if so, when? Opinions from researchers, businesses, and the public range from never to as soon as within the next three years. Many autonomous taxis (“Robotaxis”) are already operating on public roads commercially in cities in the US and China. More are driven for test purposes around the world.
These autonomous vehicles must coexist and share roads with human-driven vehicles. This mixed traffic will cause challenges for future road traffic management systems. Human-driven and autonomous vehicles will need to share roads and other infrastructure safely and efficiently.
Many developments have occurred since our first webinar on this topic, held in March of 2023. With this new workshop, which is part of IEEE SA's Mobility focus, you'll learn about the limitations of artificial and human decision-making, and discover possible solutions for the safe cooperation of autonomous and human drivers. We'll also look at the status of current projects in this space.
Each speaker is going to have 20 minutes to present their point of view, starting with a summary of last year's statement, followed by 5 minutes for questions from the audience. An open discussion among the speakers and with the audience will follow.
This webinar will cover the following topics:
