6G: Sustainable Development for Rural and Remote Communities

1 September 2022 | 12:30 - 13:30 UTC | 08:30 - 10:00 AM EDT | 18:00 - 19:30 IST

Aligning technical innovation with sustainability is an integral part of IEEE SA’s mission to raise the world's standards for the benefit of humanity. Many diverse individuals and communities of IEEE SA—from around the world—are using their expertise and know-how to help develop solutions for critical sustainability issues the planet faces today.

Rural populations need to be provided with viable connectivity to broadband core networks. Choosing efficient, cost-effective, and fast-deployment technologies—wired or wireless—will open up new opportunities for rural communities and improve the quality of life by offering access to healthcare, agriculture, education, employment opportunities, etc.

What Will You Learn From This Webinar?

This webinar is focused on sustainable connectivity for rural communities, covering topics like human-computer interaction, business models for the local operator ecosystem, regulatory and right-of-way policies, security and privacy, and future challenges related to technology migration, urbanization, and scalability.

To help address the widening digital divide through new generations of mobile network standards, this webinar will discuss:

  • 6G connectivity in rural and remote regions

  • Feasible technology options and economic models to enable 6G connectivity in the rural and remote regions

  • Human-computer interaction aspects of the limitations of users in rural regions

Attendees will also benefit from open panel discussions with experts in this field who have been finding solutions to overcome the unconnected barriers.
